Do you carry your own insurance for any belongings on the truck?

Many moving companies have insurance in place for anything they load onto the moving truck. However, you don't want to take that for granted and assume your possessions are fully covered. Make sure to ask what the limitations are on the insurance. For example, it might only cover $10,000 in property. If you feel your belongings are worth more than that, you would need to purchase separate insurance to cover the difference. This is why it is so important to know the specifics of their insurance coverage.

How far are you willing to travel?

Make sure to find out how far the company is willing to travel. Some might only service a 100-mile radius, while others are willing to go clear across the country for you. By knowing what their radius is, you can determine if the company is going to work for your particular move or not. You have to figure out the distance from your old residence to your new residence and see how many miles it is so you have a better idea of how far the company will need to travel.

Do you offer flat-rate moves or is it by the hour?

Different companies are going to have different payment structures. Because of this, you need to have a solid understanding of what you are going to pay and when. If the company does offer a flat-rate package, you want to make sure you know all the specifics of that package. Does it include a certain amount of hours to load and unload? Does it include driving time? All of these are things you need to ask before securing a company.
